By Jaxson

Main Difference

The main difference between Rope and Hawser is that the Rope is a linear collection of plies, yarns or strands which are twisted or braided together and Hawser is a Mooring line.

A rope is a group of yarns, plies, fibers or strands that are twisted or braided together into a larger and stronger form. Ropes have tensile strength and so can be used for dragging and lifting. Rope is thicker and stronger than similarly constructed cord, string, and twine.

  • Hawser

Hawser is a nautical term for a thick cable or rope used in mooring or towing a ship.

A hawser passes through a hawsehole, also known as a cat hole, located on the hawse.
