It started a year later in 1952 but gained prominence ever since. Initially, most women were judged on their bodies, especially the bikini wearing models got preferred over the ones that did not. The standard was banned some years later so that people from other countries could participate but now again has become a compulsion. It has more prominence within the United States, and most of the winners and participants come from the American region, it has had its fair share of controversies and therefore the current television channel that kept the rights has refused to air it recently. The title “Miss Universe” was first used by the International Pageant of Pulchritude in 1926 but the yearly based competition started very late. The competition got known by the name of Miss America in the beginning but later changed to a more apt title. The winner of this contest gets many prizes among which include the scholarship to some university, cash prize or some contract with a famous fashion company within the country. Although it takes place mostly within the United States, many South American countries and now Asian countries have become host to give it a universal look. Most of the contestants get selected by the local bodies from the countries, and nature keeps on changing every year based on the categories that get included.
