Difference between Its and It’s

Main Difference

It’s and Its are different terms and cannot be used alternatively. It’s is used for “It has” or “It is” while Its is the possessive form of it. If we have to say “It has been a long time we gathered here” can be said as “It’s been a long time we gathered here”. If we say “It’s lovely today, let’s go for outing” can be said as “It is lovely today, let’s go for outing”. If have to say “The leaves of tree have been lost” can be said as “The tree has lost its leaves”. If we say “The windows of building are missed”, we can say, “The building is missing its windows”.

Its

Its is the possessive form of it. It is similar to “His” used as possessive form of “He”.  If have to say “The leaves of tree have been lost” can be said as “The tree has lost its leaves”. If we say “The windows of building are missed”, we can say, “The building is missing its windows”.

It’s

It’s is used for “It has” or “It is”. If we have to say “It has been a long time we gathered here” can be said as “It’s been a long time we gathered here”. If we say “It is lovely today, let’s go for outing” can be said as “It’s lovely today, let’s go for outing”.
