The main difference between 4chan and reddit is that 4chan is registration free social media site while reddit requires registration account before use.

4chan

4chan is an image-based bulletin board where anyone can post comments and share images. At this site different boards are dedicated for different topics from Japanese anime, manga, and culture to videogames, music, and photography. No kind of registration is required to participate in this community. The site was launched on October 1, 2003 and currently Alexa rank is 739. 4chan has been linked to internet subcultures and activism, most notably Project Chanology.

Reddit

Reddit is an open source, entertainment, social networking, and news website where registered users of Reddit can submit content like text posts, or direct links. Moreover, registered users can submit vote for ‘up’ or ‘down’ to organize the posts and determine their position on the site’s pages. Content entries are organized by areas of interest called ‘subreddits’. The reddit was launched on June 23, 2005 and as on March 2015, its Alexa rank is 24.
