A divan or diwan (Persian: دیوان, dīvān) was a high government ministry in various Islamic states, or its chief official (see dewan).

A couch (British English, U.S. English, Hiberno English), also known as a sofa or settee (Commonwealth English), is a piece of furniture for seating two or three people in the form of a bench, with armrests, which is partially or entirely upholstered, and often fitted with springs and tailored cushions.
